Sevilla: Tour of the Mushroom, Cadiz, Jerez, and other adventures!

I completely forgot that last Tuesday, we toured the mushroom!  It was pretty cool.  It's the largest all wooden structure!  Underneath it are old ruins.  They were discovered when Sevilla was going to pave a parking lot!  A lot of their old floors were made of mosaics and they were so intricate!  After we saw the ruins, we went to the very top of the mushroom and got some incredible views of Sevilla!

On Friday night, we went out to a local bar and had a great time.  The next morning before we toured the Gonzalez-Byass Winery in Jerez, ISA treated us to breakfast and I had my first cafe con leche!  It was a little bitter so I'm not quite a coffee drinker yet!  The winery we toured is famous for the brand Tio Pepe.  The wine was like sherry...I liked the dry wine a lot better than the sweet one!  We also learned about one of their huge cases, called "El Cristo".  Our tour guide said that he got lonely so the winery gave him his 12 disciples-6 on either side!  The other thing I discovered was that many famous people have been to that winery...they have signed some of the barrels!  I found Chelsea Clinton, Winston Churchill, Steven Spielberg, and Margaret Thatcher's barrels.  The funniest thing I learned is that the founders found mice and decided the mice should try the sherry too.  They leave a glass of sherry and little ladder so the mice can climb up and drink it-and they do!  Gonzalez-Byass was such a fun place to tour.  I'd never been to a wine tasting but I feel like I learned a lot!

After our wine tour, we drove about 45 minutes to Cadiz.  Once we got there, we climbed up to the top of a tower and could see pretty views of Cadiz!  Climbing is the best word to use because there were no stairs-it was just very steep slopes.  After we took about 1000 pictures, we went down to find lunch and then head to the beach.  I LOVED the beach.  It was gorgeous and clean and the water was super cold. The only thing that I was surprised by were all the topless women...other than that it was a really fun day!

Once we got back, we decided to all go out again.  I was so hot and sunburned from the day that I was GRUMPY.  Denver was such a good sport to put up with me!  We went to a club that was packed...and you all know how much I love crowds!  Needless to say, I prefer sitting outside by the river having a drink rather than at a club!  The next day we finally got to sleep in a little bit.  I hung out around the house until lunch.  At lunch I walked out and my plate was covered in peas.  I hate peas so it was not a good start.  But after lunch I met up with Denver and we went to find a nonexistent art show, so we ended up meeting with our friends Brett, Afhton, and Mike and we went to the naval museum and on a paddle boat ride down the river!  It was a fun experience, but I probably wouldn't do it again while I am here!

 We rode those bikes!

Last night after dinner, Denver and I had a date and listened to a street violinist play beautifully and then got drinks by the river.  It was all so pretty-I loved every minute!  Then I went to meet up with the girls for a girls night out.  It was a lot of fun but I didn't last too long!  Tomorrow we are going to tour the Cathedral and I'll try to update again soon!
