Day 5-Venice

Venice was the trip planned for today!  We got up and got on the train around 8:45...it was about an hour ride into Venice.  It was so much fun and so different to ride the train.  The views were amazing!

Venice was by far my favorite place, probably because I recognized so much of it!  We first stopped and had brioche and succo...croissants and juice.  Then we spent the day walking around and shopping! I got a beautiful watercolor painting of Venice and few Christmas gifts.  We then found St. Mark's Square and it was absolutely beautiful.  It was packed with tourists, so I didn't get the opportunity to go inside the church (at least a 2 hour wait!) but I got to enjoy the outside!  I got to see wonderful views of the waterways, the gondola "parking lot", and the Bridge of Sighs.  The Bridge of Sighs connects the old jail to the building where prisoner's were sentenced and when they would cross over the bridge, it was their last view of Venice. After walking around those shops for a little bit, we hopped on a water taxi and rode through the Grand Canal.  It was breathtakingly beautiful..my pictures don't do it justice.  Finally, we stopped at a little cafe-type place for lunch before we finished up shopping and headed to the train!

Sadly, my day in Venice has come to an end.  It was a fantastic day and I do not want to leave Italy at all! Tomorrow is a day to just hang out in Sacile before I leave on Thursday.  It can't top today, but it'll be nice to have a chill day before I start officially studying abroad!
