Day 4-Porter and Eli turn 2!

We celebrated Porter and Eli turning 2 today! Around 8, I got up and ate breakfast with them and they opened a few presents.  Then we left for Slovenia and went to the zoo! It was hot but it was so much fun.  They don't have as strict of safety regulations as America so you could get about 3 feet from the animals...a lot of them didn't even have big cages!  Porter and Eli's favorite animal was probably the elephant.  When we saw the owls, Eli freaked out and Porter laughed...I guess Porter is Courtney's little Chi-O hooter!  Around 2:30 or 3 we all started getting tired, but Evan wanted to hike up to see the wolves.  My favorite line of the day was when Court asked him "Do you really need to see the wolves? Didn't we just see them in The Lion King or something?"  We definitely saw those wolves.  We ended the day with Porter and Eli eating dinner and getting to blow out their candles on gelato with Ashley, Nicholas, and Jake on Skype!  They also skyped Uncle Bill and Stephanie and Bennett and then opened the rest of their presents.  I think the favorite was their Elmo toys!

Eli likes to wear his hat backwards

Cows, goats, sheep, pigs, donkeys, and geese are an exhibit...we found this pretty funny!

 Monkeys
 In awe of the monkeys!
Ostriches

Alpaca

 Playing at the playground!
Court trying to get Eli to wear his birthday hat...and failing
 Leopard or Cheetah...some spotted cat
Porter LOVED the elephant

Lion...we were literally 3 feet from it!

The boys liked playing with the rope better than looking at the zebras

 The Chimpanzees were my favorite!
Sweet family

Seals!
The wolves we had to see!
SO over the zoo
It was a fun but tiring day at the zoo.  Courtney just made us really good pork chops...I will definitely be stealing the recipe!  Off to Venice tomorrow...my last trip around Italy before I head to Spain!

  2. Ali--So glad you got to visit Courtney and Evan before they left for good. They really know the places to go--and not the unual touristy places at all. I had never been to any of the places they took us this spring or last year. Sacile is not exactly on the beating path of tourism, but it is definitely real Italy! Have a great rest of your trip and I will be really anxious to see my Italian family soon in Texas--------and they are going to be burning up it is so hot!!! Nancy
